Gmail server down and returning 502 server error - DDOS ??

For the past few minutes i am getting 502 Server error when trying to access gmail.com or mail.google.com Any DOS attack?

But i am logged in through google talk and it is working ok.

EDITED: After a hour of this post gmail came back to life. I'm sure they must have worked hard to bring it back. Credits to them, good job guys. It would nice to know what caused the problem.

The google app status page has a feed that I find useful as I follow feeds often. I is showing at least 3 failures since june.
Google apps blog has an explanation for the failure.
